Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We've got answers.

Is Ake really free?
Yes, 100% free. Ake is open-source software released under the GPLv3 license. There are no subscriptions, no premium tiers, no hidden fees. Download it, use it, share it — forever free.
Is Ake safe to use?
Absolutely. Ake is open source — every line of code is publicly auditable. It collects zero data, includes no trackers, and requires no account. You can verify everything yourself on our GitLab repository.
Where does the anime content come from?
Ake uses community-built extensions to search public torrent sources like Nyaa.si, AnimeTosho, and SeaDex. Extensions are sandboxed and run separately from the app. You choose which sources to enable.
Can I watch anime offline?
Yes. Ake streams via WebTorrent, which caches episodes to your local storage. Once an episode finishes downloading, you can watch it without an internet connection.
Is Ake available on Windows, Mac, or Android?
Currently Ake supports Linux (AppImage, deb, and pacman packages). Windows, macOS, and Android support is planned for future releases. The extension system and core architecture already support cross-platform deployment.
How do I install Ake?
Download the latest release for your distribution from our GitLab repository. For Arch Linux users, Ake is available in the AUR. After downloading, make the AppImage executable and run it — no installation required.
Does Ake collect any of my data?
No. Ake has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, and no user accounts. Your anime library, watch history, and preferences are stored locally on your machine. Nothing is sent to any server.
How is Ake different from Crunchyroll or other streaming services?
Ake is not a streaming service — it's a desktop client that aggregates content from sources you choose. There are no ads, no regional restrictions, no simulcast delays, and no content removal. You control everything.
Can I contribute to Ake?
Yes! Ake is open source and welcomes contributions. Whether you want to write code, build extensions, report bugs, improve documentation, or help with translations — check out our GitLab repository to get started.
What are the system requirements?
Ake runs on any modern Linux distribution with: a 64-bit processor, 4GB RAM (8GB recommended), an OpenGL 4.5 capable GPU for hardware-accelerated video playback, and at least 500MB of free disk space for the app and torrent cache.
